What are some wall-friendly mounting techniques?

Mount it with anything you like. When it comes time to move, take it down, remove the mounting means and fill the holes with toothpaste. Allow it to harden, then wet your fingers and rub real hard, the paint around the area will fill the toothpaste with the surrounding color. Just make sure it's not kind of toothpaste that has those little blue specks in it. LOL!
