Was the original Green Lantern black?

Alan Scott was the first portrayed Green Lantern (1940), but the first known Green Lantern of Earth was Yalan Gur, who eventually became corrupted by his ring's power and set himself up as a God in ancient China. He was of alien origin, and appeared as a red dragon.
