My friend got is fake id taken in at a club in ny. can he get in trouble later?

The bouncer took the id. the id has his name and picture on it, but no other real information. we ume hes going to turn it over to the cops. He's from ny, but not anywhere close to the city where we got it taken. The bouncer told him to get lost. Can he get in trouble later? There no real way to prove he was the one who used the id since the bouncer didn't call the cops over right then. please answer if you know what your talking about or experienced this. thanks
